In the name of God Amen I William Strudwick of Clipstone Street in the Parish of Saint Marylebone at the County of Middlesex Grocer and Cheesemonger being of sound mind and memory do publish and declare this to be my last will and testament that is to say
I constitute and appoint my beloved wife Hannah Strudwick my Brother James Strudwick Builder of Great Ealing in the County of Middlesex and Mr John Peterkin Charland Street Fitzroy Square in the County of Middlesex Coach Maker to be my Executirx and Executors to this my said will
I first I direct that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid
I then give and bequeath unto my said wife Hannah Strudwick all my household furniture plate glasses ec
I next give to my said wife Hannah Strudwick and my oldest son William Strudwick all my business stock in trade book debts ec for their joint use and benefits
I next give to my executrix and executors in trust for my four children that Leasehold house situated No.16 Duke Street Lisson Grove and that Leasehold house situated No.18 Euston Street Euston Square and I likewise give those two houses No.3 and No.4 Southampton Court Tottenham Court Road for their own use and benefit till my youngest son shall attain the age of twenty one years
I likewise direct that my dear wife shall receive the rents and profits of the aforesaid Houses for the maintenance and education of my three youngest Sons till they attain the age of twenty one years then the whole of the aforsaid Leasehold houses to be sold and the money to be equally divided between all my four sons
I likewise give too my dear wife all the profits and the interest arising from all the shares I now hold or may hold in the Eagle Insurance Company at the time of my decease to my said wife during her natural life and at her decease to be equally divided between my three youngest sons John, Thomas and James Strudwick and I likewise give unto my said wife all the shares I now hold or may hold at the time of my decease in the Kent Water Works to my said wife during her natural life and at her decease to be equally divided between my three youngest sons aforesaid
And whereas I stand possessed and entitled to one half part of a certain Lease house situate No.31 Devonshire Street in the Parish of St Marylebone in the County of Middlesex I do hereby give and bequeath unto my said wife Hannah Strudwick all my said half part or share of and in the said interest and profits arising therefrom to hold to and for the said Hannah Strudwick her executors administrators and assigns from and immediately after my decease for and during her natural life to and for her own use and benefit and after her decease I give and Bequeath to my executors In trust for my four children the aforesaid Leasehold premises to be equally divided between them share & share alike
I likewise direct that my executrix and executors do pay out of my personal property the sum of one hundred pounds per annum to be paid half yearly to my uncle & late partner Mr William Hayward for his own use and benefit during his natural life
And what money I may be possessed of in the Bank of England at the time of my decease I give to my executrix and executors In trust till my youngest Son shall attain the age of twenty one years then I give the whole to be equally divided between my dear wife hannah and my four Sons share & share alike
William Strudwick No.24 Clipstone Street St Marylebone signed this nineteenth day of March in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Twentyfive
April 16th 1830 APPEARED Personally Henry Howard of Cleveland Mews Fitzroy Square in the County of Middlesex Gentleman and James Cassell of Clipstone Street Fitzroy Street in the same County gentleman and made oath that they knew and were well aquainted with William Strudwick late of Clipstone Street in the Parish of St Marylebone in the County of Middlesex Grocer and Cheesemonger deceased for six years before and more to the time of his death and having frequently seen him write and also write and subscribe his name and therein became well aquainted with the manner and character of handwriting and subscription and having most carefully viewed and perused the paper writing hereinto annexed purporting to be and contain the last will and testament of the said Deceased the same beginning thus ‘In the name of God Amen I William Strudwick’ ending thus ‘and my four sons share & share alike’ thus subscribed thus ‘William Strudwick No.24 Clipstone Street St Marylebone’ and bearing date ‘the nineteenth day of March in the year of our Lord One Thousand eight hundred and twenty five’ these deponents say that they verily and in their consciences believe the whole body series and contents of the said will beginning, ending, subscribed and bearing date as aforesaid to be of the true and proper handwriting of the said William Strudwick deceased Henry Howard, James Cassell
Same day the said Henry Howard and James Cassell were duly sworn to the truth of this affidavit before me J Addams Sur. A C Toker Notary Pub
Probatum: Proved at London 24th April !830 before the worshipful John Dodson Dr of Laws & Surr. by the oaths of Hannah Strudwick wido the relict James Strudwick the brother & John Peterkin the Executors to whom admon was granted having been first sworn duly to admin.
