        1737 Edmund 442 683 In the name of god I Edmund Strudwick of Soho Square in the parish of St Ann Westminster Esq. being of sound mind and memory praised be God for the same but considering the uncertainty of this life and being minded to make provision for my ffamily as underwritten Do make this my last will and testament in writing in manner and fform following that is to say ffirst and principally I recommend and resign my soul to God who gave it trusting through the merritts and Mediation of my Blessed Lord Saviour Jesus Christ to be forgiven All my sins My Body I commit to the earth to be decently interred as near the Grave of my late Ffather Mr Henry Strudwick on the north side of the church of Saint Pauls Covent Garden in the County of Middlesex as may be and do will and desire the same may be done at twelve oclock at night privatelly and alone and without the attendance of any relations pall bearers or other funerall pomp and that there be not expended thereupon above the sum of twenty pounds And as for my Worldly estate both reall and personal (except myCopyhold Estate of Wellwyn) I give devise and bequeath the same unto my executors hereinafter named their heirs executors and administrators all upon the trusts and confidences and for several purposes herein after mentioned and declared concerning the same that is to say in trust in the first place to secure to my dear wife Jane Strudwick one annuity of three hundred pounds a year during her life payable quarterly and to commence from the day of my death and that my said executors shall deliver unto her all my household goods watches plates jewells and furniture (my pictures (save those of her or my ffamily) only excepted) Which I also give unto her Item I give unto my three daughters Elizabeth Ann and Catherine Richmond Strudwick one thousand pounds apiece Item I give and bequeath unto my dear son Edmund Strudwick his heirs and assigns all that my Copyhold Estate at Welwyn in the County of Hertford and one thousand pounds in money which with the money I have already bestowed upon him in placing him in the world i think a reasonable and sufficient provision for him Item I give unto my daughter Jane strudwick now living with her Aunt Mrs Rutland the sum of eight hundred pounds Item I give devise and bequeath unto my dear children Samuel Strudwick and Nathanaiel-Edmund Strudwick All the rest residue and remainder of my estate both reall and personal being turned or converted into money by my executors to be equally divided between my said two sons Samuel and Nathaniel Edmund Share and share alike unless such rest and residue shall amount to upwards of six thousand pounds In which case I give unto my aforesaid four daughter £500 apiece if such surplus will extend to do the same and if such surplus exceeds the same I give such surplus unto my said two sons Samuel and Nathaniel-Edmund Strudwick And lastly I hereby name constitute and appoint my said dear wife Jane Strudwick my daughter Elizabeth Strudwick and my dear friend Philip Browne Esq. of the Parish of Saint Anne Westminster Executors of this my last will and testament and hereby revoke all former will or wills by me at any time heretofore made and declare this only to be my last will and testament In witness whereof I have hereto set my habd and seal this tenth day of November in the year of Our Lord One thousand seven hundred and thirty six Edmd Strudwick Signed Sealed Published and Declared by the above named Edmund Strudwick the testator as and for his last will and testament in our presence who at his request and in his presence have hereunto set our hands as witnesses hereto Elizabeth Willson the mark of Samuel Hargrove James Rutland 11 June 1737 Appeared personally James Rutland of the parish of Saint Anne Westminster in the Councty of Middlesex Gentleman and being sworne upon the holy evangelists to depose the truth did depose as follow to wit That the last will and testament of Edmund Strudwick Esquire late of the parish of St Anne aforesaid deceased and hereunto annexed beginning thus ‘In the name of god I Edmund Strudwick of Soho Square in the parish of St Ann Westminster Esq. being of sound mind and memory’ asnd so forth- and thus ending ‘In witness whereof I have hereto set my habd and seal this tenth day of November in the year of Our Lord One thousand seven hundred and thirty six’ is all the handwriting of him this deponent except the words Philip Browne Esq (who is one of the executors therein named) which are of the testators own hand writing and that he this deponent drew up the said will in the presence of the said testator pursuant to verbal instructions and directions given by him the said deceased on the day of the date of the said will and this deponent further declares that the words ‘watches plate and jewels’ wrote between the fifteenth and sixteenth lines of the said will and also the word ‘same’ (concerning the same) and (upwards of) as they now appear in the said will were all wrote and interlined by this deponent pursuant and agreeable to the express orders and directions of the said deceased and so wrote by this deponent in the presence of the said Testator before the executing of the said will and that he the said testator was at all and singular the said premises of sound and perfect mind memory and understanding- James Rutland The day aforesaid the said James Rutland was sworn to the truth of the premisses before me Robt Chapman Surrogate present Julius Cesar Publick Notary Probatum June 13th 1737 to Jane Strudwick widow, Elizabeth Spinster daughter power reserved to grant also to Philip Browne Esq On the 15th Nov 1769 admon (will unadminstered by Jane the relict and Elizabeth the daughter, both since also deceased) is now granted to Samuel Strudwick the natural son of the deceased. Philip Browne Esq. dying without having taken upon himself administration of the will and Elizabeth the daughter having died intestate 16th of February 1809 The will of Edmund being unadministered by Jane the relict and Elizabeth the spinster daughter, and Samuel the son now also dead, admon now granted to Tammy Booth, the wife of George Booth and administrator of the goods and chattels of Samuel Strudwick
