Letter from Henry Edwards Paine, Clerk to the Guardians of the Rye Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission enclosing a list of out relief given to able-bodied persons in the week ending 14 May 1842 in contravention of the prohibitory order dated 2 August 1841. He requests that the Commission sanctions the relief. Those listed are: From Northiam; William Crouch, wife and eight children, William Trill, wife and six children. From Beckley; George Gill, wife and six children, John Venner, wife and eight children. From Peasmarsh; Richard Offen, wife and six children, Thomas Milgate, wife and seven children. From Brede; James Watson, wife and seven children, George Fuller, wife and seven children, James Griffin, wife and seven children, Isaac Barnes, wife and eight children, John Wilson, wife and seven children.
