1689 Martha Strudwick widow of Saint Botolph

In the name of God Amen this Seven and 20th day of November Anno domino 1688 and in the fourth year of the reign about sovereign Lord James the second by the grace of God in England and Scotland France and Ireland King defender of the faithe

I Martha Strudwick of the parishe of St Botolph without Bishopsgate London widow being aged and weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory praised be to God having regard of the uncertainties of this present life and the certainty of death doe make publish and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say

Ffirst and principally I committe by soul into the hands of allmighty God my creator hoping and believing through the merits and passion and mediation of Jesus Christ to have full and free pardon of all my sinns and to enjoy everlasting happiness in the kingdom of heaven and my body I committ to the earth to be decently buried in the Church of the parish aforesaid or in the church of the parish where I shall happen to die according to the discression of my executor hereinafter nominated

And as for and concerning my worldly estate my mind and will is and I give and dispose thereof as follows

Ffirst I give and bequeath unto my nephew Samuel Grave 5 pounds of lawful English money is to be paid him at the age of one and 20 years

Item I give and bequeath to my kinsman Henry Barnett sonne of Thomas Barnett late of Portsmouth deceased the sum of 5 pounds of lawful money of England to be paid him the said Henry Barnett at the age of 1 and 20 years but if he happen to die and depart this mortall life before he attaine that age then I will and give the said 5 pounds to my nephew Walter Potter who I doe make and ordain sole and only executor of this my last will and testament

And I give will and bequeath unto my aforesaid nephew Walter Potter my said executor all the rest in residue of my estate unbequeathed after my debts legacies and funeral expenses shall be fully paid and satisfied

and lastly I doe hereby revoke annull and make void all former and other will and Wills testament and testaments by me at any time heretofore made and publish and declare this and this only to be my last will and testament and none other

In witness whereby I the said testatrix Martha Strudwick have hereunto set my hand and seale the day and year first above written Martha Strudwick signed sealed published declared and delivered by the said Martha Strudwick the testatrix as and for her last will and testament the day of the date hereof in the presence of John Hardy Michael Leaver and Peter Leaver senior in the Old Jury London
