Will of Letitia Strudwicke 1743
In the name of god amen I Letitia Strudwicke of the parish of Saint Andrews Holborne in the county of Middlesex widow being in perfect health of body and a sound and disposing mind and memory praise god for the same but calling to mind the uncertainty of this life do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say ffirst and principally I commit my body to the earth to be decently buried at Hampstead at the discretion of my executors herein after named and as touching such worldly estate a life hath pleased almighty god to bestowe upon me I dispose thereof as follows
I give and bequeath unto Somersett Draper son of my late Nephew Someresett Draper the summe of one thousand pounds he paying thereof unto his Aunt Dorothy Draper the summe of twenty pounds per annum during the term of her naturall life by half yearly payments at the two usuall feasts or days of payment of rent in the year the first payment to be made at the first of the said feasts which shall happen next after my decease
Item I give and bequeath unto Ann Draper the Eldest daughter of my late nephew
Somerset Draper the summe of three hundred pounds and I also give unto the
widow of my said late nephew Somersett Draper ten guineas and to the younger
son of my said late nephew Somersett Draper the summe of ten guineas
Item I give and bequeath unto the daughter of my neice Mary Holden ten guineas
and to all the children of my late nephew Jacob Tomson ten guineas each
Item I give and bequeath unto Ann daur of my son in law (stepson) Lucy strudwick
the summe of five hundred pounds and I also give unto the gold watch and diamond
earings that were my late daughters Jane Strudwdwick.
Item I give and devise and bequeath all my lands and tenements and hereditaments
as well freehold as coppyhold lying at Saffron Walden or elsewhere I having
surrendered such as are coppyhold to the use of my will unto my kinswoman Mary
Anne Lloyd that now lliveth with me for and during the term of her natural life
and after her decease I give devise and bequeath all and every the said land
and tenements and hereditament unto my son in law Lucy Strudwick his heirs and
assigned forever
Item I give and bequeath unto my said kinswoman Mary Anne LLoyd the summe of
two thousand pounds.
Item I give and bequeath unto my son in law Lucy Strudwick a gold seal of a
lyons paw and his father and mothers pictures and the pictures of himself and
his sister Jane strudwick
Item I give and bequeath unto my said kinswoman Anne LLoyd all my household
Goods and all my diamonds and plate that is not otherwise disposed of this
my will or by any codicill thereunto to be annexed
Item I give and bequeath unto the poor of the parish of St Andrew Holborn the
summ of twenty pounds and to the poor of the parish of hampstead five pounds
to be distributed by my executors in such manner as they shall think fit and
all the rest and residue of my real and personall estate of what nature or kind
soever after payment of my debts legacies and funeral expenses I give devise
and bequeath unto my said kinswoman Mary Anne Lloyd her heirs and executors
and admons
and lastly I do nominate and appoint the said Mary Anne LLoyd and Mr Jonathan Ewers and Mr Robert Bertloy executors of this my last will and testament and give unto the said Jonathon Ewers and Robert Bertloy the summe of thirty pounds a piece for mourning and for their troubles in the execution of this my will and I do revoke all former wills by me made at any time hereto fore made in witness whereof I have to this my last will and testament contained within five sheets of paper to the first whereof I have set my hand and to this last my hand and seal this eighth day of October in the year of our lord one thousand and seven hundred and forty two
